Trade premium against cash available
A higher deductible can lower a premium, but it leaves you with more cost when a covered loss occurs. Savings vary by insurer and coverage. Ask for two quotes with different deductibles and compare the annual difference with the extra amount you would owe after a claim.
Watch for different deductibles
Car collision and comprehensive coverage can have different deductibles; home water or other endorsements may also carry special terms. Read the policy schedule rather than assuming one figure applies to every event. Choose an amount you could pay without a crisis.
Check a real trade-off
If one quote has a lower annual premium but a much larger collision deductible, ask how many claim-free years of savings would offset the extra amount you might pay after a loss. You do not need to predict a collision to see the budget consequence. Keep emergency cash available for whichever amount you select.
