What this home insurance calculator does

Explore a broad homeowner, townhouse, condo or renter budget scenario in Canadian dollars. Select a province, property category, value band and claims category. The tool uses editorial assumptions and does not assess the building or request an address. Its displayed range is a preparation aid before requesting an actual policy quote.

Choose a value band with the limits in mind

For a house, rebuilding value is conceptually different from the sale price. Our selector does not perform a rebuilding assessment. For a condo or rental, broad bands cannot replace an inventory or a provider’s assessment of contents and improvements. Ask an insurer to determine appropriate amounts; choosing a band here does not establish adequate protection.

What is missing from a quick estimate

The model does not assess construction, systems, local exposure, individual water risks, deductibles or specific endorsements. It cannot establish flood eligibility, confirm exclusions or calculate a guaranteed replacement-cost limit. Record these as questions for the provider instead of assuming they are included in the range.

Compare home insurance quotes on matching terms

Give providers a consistent property description and ask how each assessed the building amount. Compare contents, liability, additional living expenses, settlement terms, exclusions, optional protection, deductibles and the annual payment. Use our home comparison checklist to record material differences. A low monthly figure is useful only once you understand the contract behind it.

Frequently asked questions

Does this assess my home’s rebuilding cost?

No. Select a scenario for planning and ask an insurer to assess the actual dwelling amount.

Can I get a tenant or condo quote here?

No. You can explore categories but must request a policy quote using the contents, improvements and protection relevant to your home.
