Frequently asked questions

Is this insurance calculator free?

Yes. You can use the educational car and home estimator without registration or payment.

Do I need to provide a name, email or postal code?

No. The calculator does not ask for these details. Your selections are not submitted to an insurer.

Does this tool give an actual insurance quote?

No. It displays a hypothetical budget range using the editorial factors on the methodology page.

How accurate is the insurance estimator?

It has not been validated against a representative Canadian premium dataset. A real quote may fall outside the range; no accuracy percentage is claimed.

Are the displayed amounts Canadian dollars?

Yes. The monthly and annual displays are in CAD.

How is the annual estimate calculated?

It is twelve times the monthly range endpoints. It is not an insurer payment schedule and does not calculate instalment fees.

Can I compare two cars with the calculator?

You can compare category scenarios while keeping the other choices unchanged. It cannot compare exact makes, models or current insurer rates.

Does selecting SUV mean every SUV costs more than a sedan?

No. The category multiplier is an assumption in this model. Exact vehicles can have very different claims experience and premiums.

Can the tool estimate luxury cars and electric vehicles?

It includes broad luxury and electric categories. Obtain an exact-model quote before buying or leasing.

Does it quote G1, G2 or learner drivers?

No. It uses a broad experience category and does not assess licence stages, driver age or eligibility.

Does it include Uber, Lyft or delivery insurance?

The paid-use choice only flags greater uncertainty. It cannot confirm insurance for a platform or trip. Explain the use to a provider.

Does it include every public auto insurance cost?

No. Public insurance components and provincial requirements are not fully modelled. Use the relevant official provider and provincial guidance.

Are the province factors official averages?

No. They are editorial assumptions and should not be used to rank real provincial premiums.

Why is my real insurance quote higher?

The insurer assesses detailed application information, protection and pricing that this model does not include. Ask for a written coverage and cost breakdown.

Can the estimate prove I am being overcharged?

No. This model cannot assess an insurer rate, underwriting decision or regulatory compliance.

Does the home calculator assess rebuilding cost?

No. You choose a broad value band. Ask an insurer how the actual dwelling limit is assessed.

Is a home sale price the same as its rebuilding cost?

No. They are different concepts. The calculator does not convert a sale price into a rebuilding assessment.

Can renters and condo owners use the home calculator?

They can explore broad category scenarios. The tool cannot determine adequate contents, improvements, liability or other policy limits.

Does a home estimate confirm flood or earthquake protection?

No. Ask the provider about the exact risks, optional protection, eligibility and exclusions for the property.

Does this website find the cheapest insurance company?

No. It does not retrieve, compare or rank live insurer quotes.

How should I compare real quotes?

Keep application facts, coverage limits and deductibles consistent. Record the full annual payment, conditions and questions that still need an answer.

Does bundling guarantee a lower total?

Do not assume that it does. Compare the matched annual bundle total against matched separate offers.

Does this website sell insurance or receive provider referrals?

No. It is an independent educational site. The providers mentioned in the guides are not our partners.

How can I report an incorrect page?

Email contact@insuranceestimates.ca with the page URL and the detail that needs checking. Do not email identity documents or sensitive policy records.
