Start with the choices you know
Choose your province, vehicle or property category and the closest coverage assumptions. If you have not bought the car yet, run more than one vehicle category. Write down both ends of the range rather than treating its midpoint as a promise; a postal code or exact model could push the insurer's quote outside it.
Turn the estimate into a shopping plan
Decide which coverage limits and deductibles you want compared, then request real quotes using those same choices. Keep the estimate beside the quotes to spot an unexpected difference, but rely on the insurer's written offer and policy wording for an actual decision.
A useful test run
Suppose you are considering a compact car and an SUV in Ontario. Run the estimator once for each with the same driving experience and coverage. The difference shows how this model treats vehicle categories, not what either exact car will cost. Give the insurer both model names and compare the written quotes before committing to one vehicle.
Quick check
- Record your input choices
- Compare equivalent coverage
- Ask why a real quote differs
