Separate the building and your property

Tenant policies can address personal belongings and personal liability, with terms and limits set by the insurer. Ask about additional living expenses if a covered loss makes the rental unusable. Check specific item limits for jewellery, electronics or bicycles rather than assuming all belongings are covered without restriction.

Choose realistic limits

Make a room-by-room list of belongings and estimate their replacement cost. Compare the same deductible, liability limit and water-related options across quotes. Our tenant category is a rough budget only; it does not know the value of your possessions or the exact building risk.

A first-apartment inventory

List a laptop, furniture, clothing, kitchen equipment and other belongings room by room. Their combined replacement cost may be higher than expected. Ask a provider how much contents and liability protection a tenant policy provides and whether water losses or temporary accommodation require particular options.
