Start with the standard policy

Ontario policies include third-party liability and uninsured automobile coverage. The legal minimum third-party liability limit is $200,000; many shoppers consider a higher limit. Direct Compensation–Property Damage is included in the standard policy, though drivers can elect not to claim this coverage. Make that choice only after asking an insurer what you would lose.

Check the July 2026 accident-benefit rules

For a new policy purchased on or after July 1, 2026, medical, rehabilitation and attendant-care benefits remain mandatory, while other accident benefits, including income replacement, can be optional. Older policies or renewals may need separate review. Ask your insurer to show the benefits that are actually on the quote; two premiums are not comparable if one omits protection you need.

Compare a realistic quote

Give each insurer the same vehicle year and model, driver history, annual distance and intended use. Match liability limits, collision, comprehensive, deductibles and optional benefits. Our calculator does not model Ontario’s full statutory policy, your postal code or a specific insurer, so its numbers are budgeting assumptions only.
