Inspect before a long drive
Check tires, cold inflation pressure, lights, fluids and wiper performance. Plan breaks and carry water, particularly during a heat alert. Never leave a child, vulnerable person or pet in a parked car; interior temperatures can rise dangerously even on a day that feels moderate outside.
Respect summer weather
Thunderstorms and heavy rain can reduce visibility and flood low roads. Slow down, use lights when visibility worsens and avoid driving through standing floodwater. Check official weather alerts and adjust the route instead of assuming a familiar road will remain passable.
